Our Team

Our team at Baby Steps are proud of who we are and what we do. We have a genuine passion for babies and toddlers and seek every opportunity to further our knowledge and skills with under 2’s.

This can be seen not only in our qualifications, but in our determination to provide excellence in an under 2’s environment – that’s why we love our jobs. We are committed to you and your child and love the journey we will take together in your time with us. The only part of our job we don’t enjoy is when our children grow up and have to leave us!

  • Lin

    Kia Ora!

My name is Lin and I am the centre director and owner. I have been married for twenty years and have two children. I graduated with a Diploma in Teaching and Bachelor of Teaching in ECE. I love children and enjoy working as a teacher.

I am passionate about providing quality care and education to children and their whanau. I value biculturalism, respect different cultures and encourage children to keep their home language and their unique culture so they can well develop their social identity whilst respecting other people’s culture.

I value free play, free exploration and believe in learning through play like messy play and free movement. I also value a good partnership with parents to better support their children’s learning and development. I believe in children developing at their own pace and that team work is the key!

  • Julie

    Centre Manager

Kia ora, I am Julie and I am the Centre Manager at Baby Steps. I have been teaching for over twenty years in early childhood. I have always lived in Whangarei and I have a daughter who is nineteen.

I believe that children learn best when they are nurtured in a supportive and caring environment. I enjoy working alongside our teaching team, families and whanau and I am passionate about encouraging children to become aware of their own strengths they bring to their learning and to be the best they can be.

  • Aleche

I have an absolute passion for young children, and I feel so blessed to be able to work with other parents most precious jewels! I am fun, loving, calm and understanding – and always up for an adventure! I am excited to be a part of your child’s learning journey.

  • Keita

    Kia Ora,

I am a registered, qualified Primary school Teacher, however, after having my own baby I have gained an interest in teaching younger children.

Originally from Palmerston North, studied in Hamilton and worked for two years at Tauranga Intermediate before moving to Whangarei.

Te Red Maori is my first language and I love incorporating this into my teaching. Singing, playing music, art and having fun is what I do best!

  • Krista

Kia Ora, my name is Krista and I am a part time kaiako here at Baby Steps.

I am currently in my first year of study to accomplish my goal of becoming a qualified ECE teacher.

I have a two and a half year old son with whom I live in the Whangarei Heads area. We spend most of our time at the beach or with family and friends enjoying our beautiful surroundings!
